While education and skill development continue to be the core of our interventions, we see a big gap in rural infrastructure and basic healthcare. Essential life supporting services such as accessible healthcare, public transport and banking facilities are still inadequately functional in rural India; as are other important primary developmental markers, such as institutions of higher education, vocational training and dependable earning avenues.

For the last five years, s.o.a.c.h has concentrated on educating children, strengthening poorly literate women with skills and empowering rural communities with sustainable vocations and essential infrastructure.

Support preventive health-care and nutrition

Rural India does not have 24×7 local healthcare facility such as a resident doctor or a pharmacy. This especially reflects on poor health and nutritional parameters of women and children.

Addiction and poor civic hygiene are the other health and social challenges. Further, sanitation during menstruation pose long term risks to women’s health.

antaraa thus, works towards raising awareness on preventive health care, good nutrition, and sound civic hygiene. It also supports and facilitates health camps where possible.

Nearly 80% of chronic medical conditions could be prevented by healthy life style awareness.

Support sustainable development

aangan focuses on rural development projects, that demonstrate environmentally sustainable and socially responsible civic practices.

In Pindarda village, Gandhinagar district, it has constructed a health out-reach centre, a computer and vocational skilling centre with a library space. In Alluva village, Gandhinagar district, at Aalloa hills, it has built a research and outreach centre.

s.o.a.c.h believes in participatory developmental processes where it seeks to include the active involvement of local communities and local institutions such as the gram panchayat and village schools.

As we seek to move rural India from fragile to the resilient, it is necessary to bring an awareness of the current climate, ecological and economic global concerns to reflect in our practices.
